Renewable Energy is the Power of the Future
A New World
"Like the great transitions away from wood and coal to petroleum 100 years ago, today’s societies will soon begin the move away from fossil fuels and toward a new energy system that is more suited to the economic, security, and environmental needs of the 21st century. The use of renewable energy has experienced an unprecedented surge in growth over the past few years and is paving the way for a dramatic transformation of global energy markets in the next decade." - Worldwatch Institute, 2006
A Growing Industry
As of 2005, renewable energy consumption in the U.S. has reached just over 6% of total energy usage (source: U.S. Energy Information Administration). Worldwide, new renewables (wind, solar, geothermal, small hydroelectric, biofuels and biomass) supply 2 percent of primary energy and are growing very rapidly in developed countries.
A case in point is the dramatic growth of biodiesel in recent years. U.S. biodiesel production has gone from 1/2 million gallons in 1999 to 75 million gallons in 2005, and is projected to at least double in 2006 (National Biodiesel Board).

Renewable Energy Investment Trends
Renewable energy investments now come from a highly diverse range of public and private sources. As technology is standardized, financiers of all scales are becoming involved. From commercial finance of hundred-million-dollar wind farms to household-scale micro-financing, there is a growing belief in the mainstream investment community that renewable energy is a serious business opportunity.
As of 2005, about $38 billion was invested in renewable energy capacity and installations worldwide. These investments mean that renewable energy has become big business. At least 85 publicly traded renewable energy companies (or renewable energy divisions of major companies) had a market valuation greater than $40 million in 2006.
Leading the Way
Sundays Energy, a leader in biodiesel distribution and marketing in the Midwest, is branching out into other renewable energy sectors. From biofuels to solar, from wind to “green” business services, Sundays Energy is on the cutting edge of sustainability.
